Our History

Founded by Colen Chandler, Alamance Fence began as a family business and remains a family business today. Colen took a risk in 1959 when his wife Janie was in the hospital giving birth to their youngest child, announcing he was converting his part-time passion into a full-fledged business. Today, the company is operated by Colen’s oldest son, Mike Chandler.

We started as a family business, and we still operate as one. A quote from a Times-News article that hangs in our front office today says it all: “I’ve sold to people and now I’m selling to their kids. If you do good work, people will keep calling. I’ve sold one guy four different fences– he calls me every time he’s moved.” This principle of quality service and products drives us as much today as it did when we first opened our doors.

As founder Colen Chandler says, “Take a look at the fences standing throughout Burlington and Graham and you’ll find the familiar red-and-white Alamance Fence signs tacked to many.” This is as true today as it was back then. We are proud to be the oldest and most trusted fencing company in Alamance County.
